Review & Description

Forget celebrities, at the Gay Parade After Party on the Hudson River off Christopher Street, money or no money the people are the stars and all are welcome to get down and celebrate their gay pride. Yet, on the other side of the world the city government of Moscow canceled yet again their scheduled 2011 Gay Pride Parade even after being fined by the European Court of Human Rights for not allowing one previously. Eastern Europe as a whole has some of the most repressive countries in the world regarding Homosexual rights even though they portray themselves as modern states. But once transplanted to New York City, all that homophobia becomes old world nonsense for a sexy Russian Girl exploring the Gay Parade After Party at the birthplace of the worldwide Gay Pride Movement in Greenwich Village, New York City.

While being gay in Eastern Europe is taboo, the rap and hip-hop community in America is going threw its own homosexual acceptance growing process. Recently rapper Lil B titled his new album I m Gay even though he isn t in an attempt to break sexual orientation barriers in the rap community and reportedly lost fans and received death threats. As seen in this book, there is no lack of gay pride among black Americans wearing Michael Jordan sneakers and flipping gang hand signals at the Gay Parade After Party in New York.

Russian Girl at the Gay Parade follows humble Russian Girl, Olena Ierega as she takes a tour of Greenwich Village with West Village native photographer, Garvey Rich, to capture amazing street fashion and spontaneous pictures that have nothing to do with celebrities and everything to do with the true face of the alive and kicking Gay Pride Movement in New York City. Featuring an amazing display of homemade fashion mixed with pride, joy and a tour de force fashionable Sneaker display.

Author and photographer Garvey Rich tells his story of what it was like growing up as a boy in Greenwich Village when the Stonewall Riots sparked the Gay Pride Movement and marched down the block he lived. Telling a usually unheard of perspective of what it was like growing up a straight male just a few blocks from the Gay Mecca of America, Christopher Street. He has dedicated the book to his Grandmother Jenny whose family fought their way out of the pogroms of Russia to get to New York City, juxtaposing his family s fight for freedom to the Gay Pride Movement.

Russian Girl, Olena Ierega, writes about the pervasive homophobia still prevalent in her hometown in the Ukraine.

Russian Girl at the Gay Parade is Art Directed and Illustrated by world famous art director Mark Weinburg, known for his work with artist James Rizzi, photographer Lynn Goldsmith and album covers for The Ramones, The Clash, Burning Spear & Naughty by Nature Logo & covers to name a few.

Proceeds from this full color photo book will be donated to charities that help Gay Youth forced to leave their homes or abused by their parents due to their sexual orientation.
